Comedian Ali Wong changed her hairstyle from “wackadoodle double topknot” to “sleek, grown lady” — this hurts our feelings, of course. But at the rather huge Go! Style concert she cohosts with comedian Sheng Wang, we have faith that the hair is flatironed not to indicate a less confrontational style, but to add contrast to her customarily foul mouth. Hair is so important. Go! is overflowing with high quality performers: hip-hop by Magnetic North, spoken word by Loa and Fuifui Niumeitolu, and the rad-sounding “modern Indian dance” of Tattva. Here’s the thing, though: Arrive prepared to deal with what acoustic indie rocker Goh Nakamura’s songs may do to your emotional life. Bay Areans who know the singer-songwriter’s work get all boasty, never failing to mention how up in the mix he is on the American Gangster film score, or how Internet famous he is, or like that. But they never warn about the possible effects of a Lennon-spawn with perfect pitch and that devastating little catch in his unadorned voice as he sings songs whose words are about balloons, or home, but which actually exist to rip out your heart, cover it in honey-glitter, and shove it back in you. Consider yourself warned.
