While cleaning his desk one day in the early '80s, Tokyo gangster apprentice Ishi Hideaki discovered the severed finger of his best friend wrapped in a handkerchief. Luckily for music fans, both that episode and watching the legendary New York hip-hop documentary Wild Style made Hideaki change his career path to become DJ Krush. With digits intact, Hideaki became Japan's most respected hip-hop and electronica DJ and producer, and a major figure in the global underground beat music scene. Over his dozen albums and remixes for Zap Mama, the Boredoms, and others, Hideaki has forged a unique downtempo style that recently has incorporated traditional Japanese instrumentation.
