Otis Jackson Jr., known to fans as Madlib, isn't a conventional DJ. He'd rather play essential soul oldies, rare Brazilian cuts, and gritty hip-hop beats by his Stones Throw Records' friends Oh No and the late James "J-Dilla" Yancy than cater to a club crowd. But those familiar with this reclusive producer from Oxnard expect nothing less. Jackson has always embraced transformation, whether as a member of Lootpack with MC Wildchild, solo as the hyper-pitched Quasimoto, or under such myriad identities as Beat Konducta, Yesterday's New Quintet, and Jackson Conti. This year he will issue an album per month on his own Madlib Invazion label and will produce a new LP from L.A.'s Strong Arm Steady.
