Music lovers might add that America is also the home of Mahalia Jackson, the world's greatest gospel singer and the woman who sang "How I Got Over" from the podium after Dr. King gave his famous speech during the 1963 March on Washington. We have decided to adopt both stances, and so should you. At Mahalia: A Gospel Musical, the Lorraine Hansberry Theatre inaugurates its new home with Tom Stolz' play, with the daunting lead role played by a fitting diva — Jeanie Tracy has magnificent pipes; impressive stage, television, and recording credits; and the humor and warmth to sew it all together.
