For its six years of existence, Club Foot kept art alive in the San Francisco rock scene. Opened by artist Richard Kelly in 1980, the venue became the city's premier underground performance and rehearsal space, featuring future stars like Romeo Void and drawing out-of-town freaks like Lydia Lunch. Headlining the Club Foot 30th Anniversary Concert is the venue's living legacy, Club Foot Orchestra, whose members early on laced their art rock with bits of swing, Latin, klezmer, and postbop before settling into scoring Metropolis, Nosferatu, and other silent films. Three Dadaist jazz bands the late Kelly formed — Alter Boys, Longshoremen, and Bay of Pigs — share the anniversary bill.
