More About
Pascal Arbez, the shadowy producer known as Vitalic, emerged in 2001 with the modern classic tracks "Poney Part 1," "La Rock," and "My Friend Dario." Although he is French, Arbez makes wholly synthesized music that has more in common with the cocksure blokes of a Guy Ritchie caper than some dialogue-laden Nouvelle Vague movie. Pulling together influences from square-wave electro, cosmic Italo-disco, eight-bit synth-pop, and cinematic acid house, he eschews realism for slick characters weaving through grainy scenes. There are periods of fuzz-driven paranoia and psychedelic euphoria in Vitalic's sophomore full-length, Flashmob.
