Next to food carts and Sunset growhouses, one of the most welcome recent trends in the city has been going to museums at night, and then drinking. Previously, you went to a museum in the harsh light of 1 p.m. and tried to hit all the rooms before Dad’s blood sugar collapsed. Now, at places like the de Young, we stand around lobbies, drinking, listening to bands, or watching performances, letting the Oceanic collection slide for the night. SFMOMA, surprisingly, has resisted the trend that it should have started, but is finally onboard with SFMOMA: Now Playing, at least for the next three months. It kicks off tonight with cash bars, complimentary small bites, screenings from “Long Play: Bruce Conner and the Singles Collection,” and, at 9 p.m., a show by L.A. “performance collective” and band My Barbarian, which is doing something appropriately arty and costumey — the museum hints at a rock opera. The April 15 entry features sound artist Laetitia Sonami and video artist SUE-C, and on June 17, Chris Johanson launches his issue of the “periodical in the form of an object,” THE THING Quarterly, with his band 17th & Capps.
