Hey, Everybody! We're All Gonna Get Laid!

Watched at the proper time (onset of puberty), Caddyshack features many teachable moments: 1) go ahead and throw your candy bar in the community pool, 2) country club sex, 3) blowing up golf courses, and 4) golf is okay? There are more — Caddyshack is why “I’m All Right” is etched, like runes, into your ear canal — but the true takeaway is the power and payoff of gutsy filmmaking, which first-time director Harold Ramis took to like an assistant greenskeeper huffing Weed B Gon Max. The movie was notorious for improvisation, so much so that the script leads Ted Knight and Scott Colomby were told to let Rodney Dangerfield, Chevy Chase, and Bill Murray play through. Just look at what Murray can do when he is not told to do much of anything at all. Tonight, director Jim Fourniadis takes a gutsy approach of his own, taking on golf’s holiest of holies in the stage show Caddyshack Live! We don’t know much about the production, but the trailer features the gopher at a bar, drunk, riffing on the show and his ruined life. “Pay-thos? You want pay-thos?” he mumbles. “Go and see ACT’s lesbian version of The Odd Couple.” Then he dances. He is all right.
