No Coveting the Standup
Tom Papa is the host of The Marriage Ref, and since we’ve been fleeing from everything that has to do with The Marriage Ref — the promos, the reviews, the show itself — we don’t know how he’s doing. We do know he’s opened for Jerry Seinfeld’s standup show for many years, and that sent us to YouTube, and we discovered something delightful: Tom Papa is a very skilled classic joke teller, and will have you laughing, almost despite yourself, about things like fatherhood, the gym, body hair, growing old, and drinking. He has an enthusiasm and a wit that brings these hoary standup staples well further than his sitcom brethren — don’t forget he opens for a legend.
