They may have had fabulous hair, hand signs, a complete intolerance for disrespect, and fierce loyalty to one another. But the Mission High students known in the 1980s as the Tiny Locas were not a girl gang. They were friends, not criminals. At "Two Four Home Girls Circa 1980," a collection of Tiny Locas memorabilia shows a real-life version of Love and Rockets comics: fans of Los Bros. Hernandez should prepare to flip out. Photos from the personal collection of former Tiny Loca and 30-year Mission District resident Sandy Cuadra are the centerpiece here, showing an iconic American coming-of-age scenario. Lowrider cars, beer and football in Dolores Park, and "You and I" dances were the things to do, and an impressive collection of fliers for the latter take up almost half the exhibit's space. Local filmmaker Veronica Majano, who grew up idolizing the Tiny Locas, contributes archival films of contemporary action, including the long-lost art of cruising. "Two Four" is part of the larger "Sólo Mujeres Exhibition."
