Thanks to an appearance in Zombieland (as well as showing up in Gossip Girl, Grey's Anatomy, and a popular soccer videogame), "Gold Guns Girls" has given Metric's year-old Fantasies a second wind. So the Canadian indie-pop act is back on the road supporting its first album since 2005's Live It Out. Frontwoman Emily Haines loads up on the sweet and sour, serving "Help I'm Alive" and "Gimme Sympathy" with a side of pout and bite. It's slippery, sexy stuff, mixing crunchy guitar riffs with skittering electronic buzzes. Like many of the band's Canadian compatriots, Metric is hit-or-miss when it comes to hooks. Still, the group is a lot more fun on record and onstage than Broken Social Scene, Stars, and Feist.
