John Chiara climbs inside his camera. Michelle Blade serenades a city. Brice Bischoff plays with an iconic real fake landscape. At "Alchemy," curator Sarah Smith has put together the work of people trying to change plain, sturdy materials into something shimmering and interesting. So the fact that some of the art is very nearly impossible to describe shouldn't be surprising: Ellen Babcock's work involves a cave, ideas about tourism, sarcastic graffiti, bits that remind us of the Museum of Jurassic Technology, and crystal healing. Randy Colosky shoots snowflakes, Adam Hathaway records nothing, using garbage, Christopher Sicat mixes redwood trees and pencils, and Lindsey White skips rocks on glasses of water.
