São Paulo–based Gui Boratto maps tech-house's valleys of rhythm and peaks of melody. At his best, the DJ and producer pushes his carefully measured percussion into an insistent crease, avoiding distracting friction or overpowering gloss along the furrow. It's a relatively luminous channel he navigates, a steady stream of midtempo anthems with periodic swells of pop-informed euphoria. The set would seem almost cheesy during certain trance-worthy choruses, were it not for the occasional descent into a grainy eddy of minimal techno.
