Like a High-Heeled Moonwalk

Move over, This Is It: A dozen drag-world denizens take to the stage tonight, hell-bent on further warping, memorializing, and queering the already whacked-out legacy of the late, legendary Michael Jackson at Trannyshack! Michael Jackson Tribute Night. Trannyshack’s tribute to the man who went from boy wonder to King of Pop to the all-too-easy target of tabloid junkies features a gaggle of the city’s silliest, sassiest, and most scintillating performers — the reliably unhinged Raya Light, the always avant-garde Ambrosia Salad, and faux queen Holy McGrail represent just a few of the talents. One can only hope that somebody incorporates a chimpanzee into her number, while another two might give their all to the Janet/Michael duet “Scream,” and someone will attempt the dangerous antigravity lean of “Smooth Criminal.” What will actually take place is anyone’s guess, but you can reasonably expect to be dazzled, momentarily offended, and tickled pink as one three-minute stage episode after another unfolds. Wacko Jacko’s legend lives on through rascally gender illusionists. Shamon!
