We really wonder what would happen if a museum in another country took a look at the way we dress. "Residents of this area rely nearly exclusively on denim trousers, with tiny variations in color and style allowing the wearer to express unique and equally critical messages, such as political attitudes, educational institutions and affiliations, or social views." We took the last part of that statement from the description of "Rhythm and Hues: Cloth and Culture of Mali." The West African country has mad style in spite of being one of the poorest countries in the world; the exhibit shows exactly how much. Bright colors are the thing there, and women get to wear awesome headscarves with their boubous and kaftans. The exhibit concentrates on the people who dye, sew, weave, and otherwise provide the raw materials for Mali's fashion mavens.
