Cash for Clothes

Discarded to Divine is a fashion-show benefit auction in which designers create new looks from piles of old clothes that were likely never in the neighborhood of anything that could be called a look (save “Look at this piece-of-shit shirt I got at the liquor store!”). Given the raw materials, it has the air of a Project Runway challenge about it, especially since many of the designers are young and hungry and the clothes are sent down the runway arranged around models. Also, Sweet P. (season four; booted episode 11) and Jay Nicolas Sario (season seven; booted episode 11) are actually in Discarded to Divine this year, making dresses, so everybody is hereby given blanket forgiveness for muttering things like “Make it work” and “U R aut” after a few drinks. (The preshow cocktail and hors d'oeuvres reception is always a nice time, incidentally.) Proceeds benefit the St. Vincent de Paul Society, which is the source of the discarded clothes the designers pick through.
