As with any cultish event, Free Comic Book Day has its own codes and rituals — there’s more to it than simply waltzing into a store to collect your free comic book. For FCBD, you must waltz into a participating store — don’t run into some Borders and start screaming about any FCBD, because they’ll have security radioed as soon as you breach the property line. Same with Barnes and Noble and any 7-Eleven with a decent spinning rack. Key word, then: Participating. Afterward: You are encouraged, but not required, to become a fan, and maybe fly to Comic Con in San Diego in July. Local participating stores include Caffeinated Comics Company, Mission: Comics & Art; Isotope, and Comix Experience.
