Painter Clare Rojas likes wrinkles on people's faces. While this makes her a near-terrorist — if anyone stops trying to stop aging, capitalism may grind to a halt — it's only one of her many defiant ways. She also likes to paint full-frontally naked men, and that's just, you know, not done. At her new exhibit, "We They, We They," she goes in for Americana: buttons, quilt imagery, and highly stylized natural shapes, all with her Mission School roots showing. Working in floor-to-ceiling panels, Rojas draws on folky traditions from various cultures, and brings them together in her flat pastel world where things can go from domestic to dangerous extremely quickly. At the reception on May 13, she also plays music in the form of her alter ego, Peggy Honeywell.
