The A.C.T. Young Conservatory once staged Mikhail Bulgakov's The Master and Margarita. We attended only because we were piqued that some kids were taking a swing at maybe the world's best novel. We went to see them fail, so we could be righteously pissy over our post-theater cocktail. We were severely disappointed: The "kids" were large teenagers, really, full-grown people, and dazzling in every way; full of talent, charm, chutzpah. It was a great adaptation. Thus, we can recommend Beautiful Child: The Music of Rufus Wainwright, even though the Young Conservatory has once again stepped on a sacred cow. As excited as we are to see the production (it's part of a series dedicated to songwriters), we're wondering just who-all thinks we'd want to hear anyone else sing Wainwright's songs. That post-theater cocktail is still on, you hear us, kids?
