Accordingly, the group should provide equal doses of the bold and the beautiful when Frightened Rabbit performs an acoustic show on Tuesday, May 18, at Rickshaw Stop, 8 p.m., $20, www.rickshawstop.com; and an electric one on Wednesday, May 19, at the Fillmore. 8 p.m., $22.50; www.livenation.com.
Precious as its name may sound, Scottish quintet Frightened Rabbit actually makes a spirited roots-rock sound that's far from twee. Six years, three albums, and a whole batch of singles in, these Glaswegians — led by charismatic frontman Scott Hutchison — have evolved from stripped-down, lo-fi musings on misery to the sunny, regal, and sonically thick new The Winter of Mixed Drinks. With strings, samples, and choral harmonies feeding its guitar-based gallop, the Rabbit finds a path toward arena-sized grandeur.
