If you feel the name "Boys Noize" should accompany something petulant, then you would be satisfied by Oi Oi Oi, the breakthrough album by Berlin producer and labelhead Alex "Boys Noize" Ridha. It showed a consistency, albeit one of scuzzy, riff-anchored electro that stacked percussive splatter, sawtooth bass, and attenuated treble into a wailing take on robot rawk. It sat its torrents of clenched tone proudly next to J.U.S.T.I.C.E. and Digitalism. Now Ridha is touring on 2009's Power, which is actually notable for its moments of reserve. There's still a display of manic oscillation, a command of distended extremes, but there's also an exploration of melody and harmony, varying expressions of both motion and emotion. Ridha will present both at Pop 2010: The Dream at the Cow Palace in Daly City on Saturday, May 29. Also appearing are Armin Van Buuren, Infected Mushroom, and Benny Benassi, among other anthemic trance, prog, blog-house, and electro artists.

  • Arcade Fire at Shoreline
Arcade Fire opened their US tour at Shoreline Amphitheater to a full house who was there in support of their album "Reflector," which was released last fall. Dan Deacon opened the show to a happily surprised early audience and got the crowd actively dancing and warmed up. DEVO was originally on the bill to support Arcade Fire but a kayak accident last week had sidelined lead singer Mark Mothersbaugh and the duration of the west coast leg of the tour. Win Butler did a homage to DEVO by performing Uncontrollable Urge.
