That's not to say that an honest financial assessment of Sharp Park Golf Course means that the public, or elected officials, won't choose to keep it around. To Neilson, who was out for an afternoon round at Sharp Park recently, the millions of dollars the city must pour into the golf course would be worth it. "There's no cheap way out of this dilemma," he says. "There's no way to do this without spending money." Even if it costs $17 million or more? Neilson smiles and shakes his head. "We're in America," he says. "Money is Jesus. Get down on your knees and pray."

Avalos' Legislation to Repurpose Sharp Park Receives Accolades from Diverse Interests, Including Golfers http://wildequity.org/entries/3182 The report commissioned by SF Rec and Park was not permitted to be peer reviewed, and it is fundamentally flawed science. As a result, SF Rec and Park's rosy assumptions will not hold up - by key environmental, social, economic metrics. It's great to see the first peer-reviewed scientific study of Sharp Park is published. The key finding: Removing the golf course and creating a new public park is the least costly, best option.
