Greg Laswell sounds like the kind of softy who sings sweetly about heartbreak mainly just to get chicks, which in turn leads to the type of breakups that fill songbooks. It appears that the cycle is working for the Southern California native, with an album dedicated to his divorce, Mandy Moore on his relationship résumé, and Ingrid Michaelson seemingly lined up to become his next wife. (Michaelson also sings on his new album, Take a Bow.) To his credit, Laswell has done an excellent job of channeling his singer-songwriter impulses into full-fledged pop songs that are dramatic, beautiful, and catchy — a triple threat that has made him a Grey's Anatomy soundtrack regular. He can be cheesy, but in a good way: A selling point for the cool kids is that Laswell sounds like a polished version of Pedro the Lion's David Bazan, who, interestingly enough, is also in town on Thursday.
