For more than three decades, Kronos Quartet has blown through musical borders with an appetite for innovation rarely found in any genre, let alone the often-traditional-leaning, classical-string-group milieu. After original cellist Joan Jeanrenaud left in 1999, the combo spiced up its repertoire with ear-bending works from Serbia, Palestine, Lebanon, India, Brazil, and Mexico. The upshot is a voracious international sound, technically brilliant and fearlessly creative. For its Yoshi's debut, Kronos trains its spotlight on a "jazz" program, interpreting the world-conscious compositions of John Zorn, Maria Schneider, Charles Mingus, Hamza El Din, and Philip Glass.
