Junk Portraitist

Jason Mecier creates the kind of art you look at and say, “Impossible.” He uses small objects, often objects owned by the very subjects themselves, and creates mosaic portraits. There’s no paint, just stuff. Open your desk drawer and look. Those are his materials. Also the stuff in your bathroom, kitchen, garage, and trashcan. Regular little pieces of crap. And he doesn’t let himself off easy by creating portraits of people nobody knows, but celebrities, many of whom send him a box of junk to do it. He’s been doing it for 10 years, creating dozens of crazy things, and every one is a big hanging piece of impossible. “Celebrity Junk Drawer” features more than 10 strong works, including Chelsea Handler, Conan O'Brien, Stevie Nicks, and dear Rue McClanahan.
