Curated by designer Yves Béhar, the innovative exhibit "TechnoCRAFT: Hackers, Modders, Fabbers, Tweakers, and Design in the Age of Individuality" promises "the latest in do-it-yourself and collaborative design." The people at Droog accomplish this by picking up sledgehammers, smashing cubes of metal, and sitting in them for a while because — chairs. Droog is based in Amsterdam, it almost goes without saying, and the company is making chairs (smashing metal) at tonight's opening party. Later, Scissors for Lefty competes with the designs and liquor for the attention of everyone else. Other contributors in the show include Puma, which is surprisingly adept at design (Béhar recently made a new-style shoebox for the company), and Olafur Eliasson, who in 2007 turned the top floor of SFMOMA into a godless kaleidoscope of light, mirrors, and water. He also sheathed a BMW H2R in an exoskeleton of ice, which was the perfect place for it. Also on hand is our beloved Cyclecide, which fabricates bicycles to the specifications of your 10-year-old soul, and local store Zinc Details, which creates a pop-up shop selling accessories and gadgetry created by artists in the show.
