The San Francisco Marathon is the opposite of Bay to Breakers. As a recent Wall Street Journal article noted, it is the race that even marathoners fear. So no one shows up in four-inch heels and a cow head mask, or gets epically, theatrically, proudly wasted. The Full Marathon is the doozy: It starts in S.F., hardly avoids any hills, goes across the Golden Gate Bridge and back, and finally circumnavigates the city via the Embarcadero. The Half Marathon is no joke either, so dont expect jokers. The runners today are serious, and epically, theatrically, proudly cardiovascular.
