Brenda Way, KT Nelson, and Kimi Okada run a tight ship, and it's a good thing. ODC Dance is an empire, encompassing a contemporary dance company, a huge school, a dancers' clinic, and the soon-to-be-reopened theater. Maybe best of all is its raucously joyful in-house dance exercise program, Rhythm & Motion, whose motto is "Everybody Dance Now." The phrase could accurately represent the whole organization, whose healthful, fun, democratic approach is extremely refreshing in the normally snotty, starvation-oriented, elitist dance world. It's very San Francisco, as a matter of fact. The world-class professional company's popular annual program, the ODC Summer Sampler, invites you to the airy, welcoming "commons" inside the school for wine and hors d'oeuvres before taking in recent choreography by Way and Nelson.
