Make

Craftmaking doesn't have to be cool. With the right mix of instructor (our downstairs neighbor), location (church basement), and project (yarn painting), craftmaking can be as soul-crushing as ordering and eating a baked potato at Wendy's. None of that happens tonight. Craft Bar with Etsy Labs is so firmly fixed on the cool kids' side of the crafting table that it practically defines it. It takes place in a folk-art museum among the stellar work of Clare Rojas, which you should look at for inspiration, and also because you should. It's not led by "artists" but artists: Julie Schneider, Kelly Ball, Jen Hewett, and Maren Salomon. They're going to help you make books. All kinds. You can put your poetry in there, or a twig a loved one gave you in lieu of bourgeois flowers. The LoinSF leads a silk-screening project, and Stitch 'n Bitch leads a knitting circle. And you can drink beer, which will make anything you do look amazing.
