When You're Here, You're Family

We often wondered about Tyler Florence: Applebee's? One would think a Food Network star could get a better gig, like Tom Collichio and his refreshing diet soda. But then we found out, via the Chron, that Applebee's paid him $3 million. Holy crap, there's no place like the neighborhood! (That's Applebee's slogan, more or less.) That kind of causal-dining money is allowing him to morph from a soft-faced TV guy into a real food player, with the new restaurant downtown, Wayfare Tavern, and a couple more in the works. Appropriately, Florence is all over SF Chefs 2010, a week of demos, parties, and classes. On Sunday, we get to see how far his spray tan goes at the clothing optional (not really) “Bohemian Bash Hosted by Tyler Florence.” That morning, he appears with other TV stars for Anolon Chefs' Challenge: As Seen on TV, teaming with Elizabeth Falkner (Iron Chef) to take on Chris Cosentino (Iron Chef) and Jennifer Biesty (Top Chef). Plenty of local chefs fill in the gaps, and dozens more create "SF Chefs Showcase" dinner menus at their own spots for Restaurant Week.
