Notaro Public

Taking the time to register a protest with Vanity Fair over its 2007 "Why Women Aren't Funny" article is about as worthwhile as ringing up some ol’ passel of haters and letting them know Gay is Okay. To what end? And yet, every time we see an incredible lady comedian (which, luckily, is often), that damn article springs to mind with a big in your face for VF. Tig Notaro has toured extensively performing stand-up comedy (and was a highlight of the 2010 SF Sketchfest), and also appears as Officer Tig on Comedy Central’s The Sarah Silverman Program. She holds an audience with confidence, pausing for laughs and smiling, rather than power-joshing the night away, hoping something will stick. She appeared several times on Dog Bites Man, and has graced your usual late-night talk shows. Notaro completed, but has not yet released, a DVD titled Have Tig at Your Party, in which, for the duration, she stands still and speaks occasionally, attempting to blend in at any party. She’s — gasp! — funny. Take that, Vanity Fair article.
