Ken Russell adapted the Who's 1969 classic rock opera for the big screen in 1975. Tommy tells the story of a British youngster rendered deaf, dumb and blind after witnessing his mother's infidelity while his father is away fighting for the empire in World War II. Highlights of the film include Ann-Margret swimming in baked beans, Elton John playing a mean pinball, and the late Who drummer Keith Moon doing his worst to the young Tommy as the wicked Uncle Ernie. Ann-Margret and Who guitarist/songwriter Pete Townshend were nominated for Oscars.
