A Time to Dance is for anyone with an attention-hungry sibling. Libby Skala’s play is based on the life of her great-aunt, Elizabeth Polk, who had an interesting life: she survived World War I aka “The Great War” (people were more excited about wars back then), intense sickness, and the Holocaust. But on top of all that, Polk had a famous sister, an actress of all things, who was nominated for an Oscar for her work in a film with Sidney Poitier. (We imagine Polk: "Uh! Whatever! She thinks she’s so great!") Polk would show her, though. As a dancer and a survivor, she told the American Journal of Dance Therapy “I loved to dance. In fact, it was the one thing in my life that made me perfectly happy and I like to be happy. So I danced.” She did more than dance, though. She also made huge contributions to the field of dance therapy, and got awards for it -- and made other people happier and healthier in the process. ("In your face, famous sister!") Skala’s play netted her the Best Solo Performer mention at London’s Fringe Theatre Festival, and was lauded in the New York Times.
