Artists will literally take their process to the street by using a three-ton steamroller to make prints. The Roadworks Steamroller Prints Street Fair will feature block prints carved from linoleum. It is the seventh year the event has been put on by the San Francisco Center for the Book. Three featured artists will be Gary Brewer, Sarah Newton, and Rik Olson, who will work with three-foot-square pieces of linoleum. Limited editions of the prints they produce will be for sale. Eighteen other artists will work with smaller pieces of linoleum in the theme of “Loteria,” the exhibit at the nearby center’s Austin/Burch Gallery. Loteria is a card game of chance that includes icons of Mexican culture. The work of these 18 artists will be for sale at an event in November. In the “Little Lino” project, people can purchase pieces of linoleum to carve and then have printed by the steamroller. Other activities at the street fair include a letterpress workshop as well as tours of the Austin/Burch Gallery. Live music and food vendors will also be there.
