To hear Mimi Vilmenay tell it, she doesn’t have any fans. “Everyone freaks out at everything I say. I’m upsetting everyone around me constantly,” she says. A case in point might be how she answered her young daughter’s question about the facts of life: “What’s an abortion? It’s why you have one sister and not five.” Okay, that’s pretty shocking. But as for the “no fans” part, we don’t believe it. Vilmenay comes across as so matter-of-fact, so approachable, so not-a-hardass, it’s like someone else is the foul-mouthed, in-your-face cretin and she’s just relaying their messages. And she’s not immune from her own fury. She put a handlebar mustache on her 4-year-old to pose as a hipster she was dating. “You look like a fat Katy Perry,” the faux-hipster said. “I like you but I don’t. You’ve got to move on.” And moving on, she is. Vilmenay has been doing open-mic nights at the likes of the Brainwash and the Stud, but now she’s hooked up with Jabari Davis & Associates and is on a bill with four other comics. We hope it’s the start of something big.
