More About
Hilary Sample is an architect. Shes an artist. Shes on the faculty at Yale. Shes also part of an architecture and design firm known as MOS that was founded sometime in 2003 (according to its website) and that uses playful experimentation, serious research, and old-fashioned problem-solving in its work. The firm approaches architecture as a set of interrelated issues including traditional concerns such as building performance, fabrication, and structure as well as cultural, social and environmental networks. Some of MOS recent work includes a villa in Ordos, Inner Mongolia, as well as a public art installation called Afterparty at the P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center in Long Island City, N.Y. Sample is working on a book called Sick City: A Global Investigation into Urbanism, Infrastructure, and Disease. Her appearance at CCA is co-sponsored by the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.
