More About

Austrian experimental musician Christian Fennesz is the Jimi Hendrix of digitally treated guitars, a master whose instrumental compositions marry faint, glitchy frequencies with harmonic waves that hum, buzz, and swirl. A compositional cousin of Beach Boy Brian Wilson and Brit innovators My Bloody Valentine, he tears the stuffing out of fuzzy guitar-pop and reassembles it into undulating pulses that build into beautiful crescendos. Fennesz, whose last name is his performance moniker, has recorded solo since 1997. But it was his 2001 album, Endless Summer (released on the vaunted Mego label), which dazzled music critics. The project vaulted Fennesz out of the experimental ghetto and into studio collaborations with Yellow Magic Orchestra's Ryuichi Sakamoto, British sound artist Keith Rowe, and Americana outfit Sparklehorse.
