Katie Bush is nothing if not intense. In writing about her show, “Seeking to Destroy Families and Faith” (and referring to herself in the third person), she can seem satirically vitriolic: “The artist erects a colossal, pesticide-riddled harvest of family-shattering original content.” (Take that, Focus on the Family!) Certain links on her website transport the viewer to a giant NO! with the words “A terrible mishap has occurred, and only you are to blame.” Maybe this is a comment about artists owning the rights to their work and controlling access? But then she gets comical, calling herself “America’s favorite lady” and a “modern-day digital sweetheart.” (She deals in large-scale digital prints.) Her work – surprise! – is also powerfully confounding, or confoundingly powerful. (We’ll let you decide which.) She superimposes repeating images of pink-uniformed majorettes, rocket-launchers, women in surgical masks, baby heads, minivans, and what appear to be ammunition belts atop rainbows (as in, flags). Her show has been extended through Oct. 15 at 2Spirit Tattoo, in what the artist calls “an arousing 200 square foot display of kaleidoscopic socio-sexual marital mayhem.”
