Long Time No See

Wednesday, Sep 29 2010
The recent Hope Sandoval show renewed our desire to rehear the epic, off-kilter women's voices that emerged in the early 1990s. Sandoval was even better than we had hoped — she didn't foreground her Mazzy Star hits, but she did put the entire audience into a swaying, lovestruck trance. The Cowboy Junkies released several classic albums at about that time, notably 1988's The Trinity Session, which is made of meditative country-roots music, shimmery microphones, and Margo Timmins' sexy-philosopher voice; she has no equal. Currently, the Junkies' original, never-changed lineup is focused on Renmin Park, a new album of poetic musings about China. May Sinead O'Connor visit us soon.
