Support the Arts - Get Stamped

How would you like to walk around a San Francisco neighborhood, meet local artists at the various locations you visit, and get original works by each of them – without paying a fortune? It’s possible at “Passport 2010,” scheduled by the San Francisco Arts Commission. The event is just what it sounds like – you buy a custom-designed notebook (er, passport) from the Arts Commission, visit locations in Hayes Valley, and have 16 artists put his or her custom stamp in the notebook. In years past, according to the Arts Commission, the stamps have been pretty elaborate, sometimes including the artists adding final touches by hand or delivering the stamps with their own performance elements. Participating artists are Timothy Cummings, Jamaica Dyer, Ana Teresa Fernandez, Suzanne Husky, Jason Jägel, Ruth Laskey, Paul Madonna, Nigel Poor, Ricardo Richey, Lordy Rodriguez, Jovi Schnell, Travis Sommerville, Deth P. Sun, Weston Teruya, and Lindsey White. Even the late Richard Diebenkorn will add a stamp, courtesy of his estate. Stamp locations include Zonal, Rooky Records, MAC, and Isotope Comics, among others. The Arts Commission will be set up in Patricia’s Green on Hayes Street, distributing maps and selling notebooks for $25. The books will be available a several other locations, including Saturday night at a kick-off party at the Rickshaw Stop. See the Arts Commission’s website for more information. Proceeds from “Passport 2010” benefit the Arts Commission Gallery’s programming fund.
