Imagine that your life is unflinchingly peachy. Each day overflows with stellar news and beams of sunshine, granting you permission to use the words "awesome," "rad," and "stoked" with unironic abandon. Should that existence ever materialize, Fang Island deserves to score its every moment. The Brooklyn five-piece's speedy indie rock feeds off ebullience and positivity — a notion that ties into the band opening last spring's Fang Island with popping firecrackers. Making fine use of tightly wound, crackling guitars and echoey shouts, the band's kinetic antics puts it in the vicinity of the Thermals, Motion City Soundtrack, and Matt & Kim. More evidence of good vibes: A YouTube clip shows Fang Island playing a set to a jubilant class of kindergarteners, its MySpace page compares the band's sound to "everyone high-fiving everyone," and it lifted its name from an Onion article about Donald Rumsfeld holding a worldwide fighting tournament. It takes determination to have and produce this much fun.
