Videofestorganizers invited “travelers, explorers, migrants, and wayfarers of all stripes to submit short videos that explore the lesser known aspects of the everyday.” And they got ’em. Lots of ’em. We like Homes for the Homies, San Francisco videomaker Gloria Morán’s portrait of Mission denizen Cynthia De Losa, who makes exquisite shadowbox versions of iconic city locales and fills them with Dave Gonzalez’ Chicano gumball-machine figurines. De Losa likes to remind herself, albeit in miniature, what her city looked like before it got blighted or gentrified — and to suggest what it might look like yet. This audacious fabulist dares to imagine a world in which the line outside St. Francis Fountain isn’t all white fixie kids.
