Here's an unsolicited conceptual suggestion for a Sister Crayon music video. It can be about one of those recordings people make late at night to prove their house is haunted. But the house has to have a lot of character, and be of a modest size, in a pregentrified neighborhood. And the ghost can turn out to be benevolent and generous, but also forlorn and a tad shy, and a beautiful woman. Naturally she'd be portrayed by the somehow substantively ethereal singer and bandleader Terra Lopez. Too obvious? Anyway, it's hard to say where the story would go from there, because the real thing about Sister Crayon's music is its fullness of possibility. Bottom of the Hill's online calendar describes the Sacramento-based four-piece with a bemusedly busy descriptor-cluster: "Visual/Acousmatic/Tape music/Ghettotech." The band's own MySpace page narrows it down, and opens it up: "Jeff Buckley + mothers + absent fathers." Tuesday's all-ages show, with Baths and El Ten Eleven, may not clarify the matter of categorization, but probably will induce a spectral swoon.
