Do forgive And So I Watch You from Afar (ASIWYFA) for its dreadful name. Though the band sounds like it's titled after some voyeur's mission statement (the name was actually intended to give off 1984 vibes), these guys from Belfast don't do much stalking. ASIWYFA pours post-rock's intelligent instrumentals into punk casing. Slicing right through atmospheric fog, the four-piece acts with aggression, speed, and decisiveness, evoking Tera Melos, Russian Circles, At the Drive-In, and Refused as stylistic relatives. Still, for as savvy and focused the band members' songwriting is, they don't take themselves too seriously. Aside from a rare guest singer, they use voice only as dramatic punctuation. "Set Guitars to Kill," for example, breaks up five and a half minutes of instrumental acrobatics by issuing a triumphant, all-players-in "Whoo!"
