The Roving Eye

Seeing vs. spying. Looking vs. prying. The right to privacy vs. the right to know. The camera has become nearly ubiquitous in modern society, and the images in Exposeddemand that viewers consider how this device has transformed the nature of bearing witness to the world around us. The exhibition combines historical photographs with contemporary ones, as well as films and video works. The artists range from the unknown to the world renowned. Exposedincludes some of the camera’s most unsettling uses, including surveillance, celebrity stalking, pornography, and documenting violence. It will lead viewers to ask who is looking at whom – and why.
