Multilevel, multi-ethnic, multimedia, and multigenerational, Burning Libraries: Stories from the New Ellis Island is one of the most multi- events we’ve ever heard of — and trust us, we’ve heard of some very multi events. It’s a play, basically, but it’s performed by dancers and aerialists, and it features sculpture, puppets, artistic projections, original music, and a poetically egalitarian political stance. The words of the play, often in voiceover and illustrated by the onstage action, are stories taken from the lives of immigrants and migrants who’ve come here from Yemen, Mexico, Liberia, and other countries. The producers see these stories as a way to push back against the current national craze for racist xenophobia, so in entertaining you and doing that, Burning Libraries is also multi-use.
Fridays-Sundays, 8 p.m. Starts: Nov. 6. Continues through Nov. 14, 2010
