Behold the Encyclopedia Project, for it is not the Internet. The Internet, so lovable for its ready mis/information, nudie pix, and social networking opportunities, also provides us with the opportunity to step away from it and cherish books. From Flowers in the Attic to McSweeney’s, the pleasure of clutching a tome and taking it to heart whilst commuting, breastfeeding, or yachting is real, and the Encyclopedia Project will make you want to do all those things so you can lose yourself in its content and artistry. Tonight’s Encyclopedia Project launch party celebrates volume two of the series, a collection of books containing writing and imagery whose topics start with the letters F through K. Structured like an encyclopedia in layout and cross-referencing, the entries are the stuff of literary journals, offering a slew of narrative styles and visual vocabularies. A good number of contributors are involved in the party tonight, including photographer Tammy Rae Carland, whose show “Funny Face, I Love You” at Silverman Gallery is garnering rave reviews. Also onboard are local writer and supertalent Robert Gluck, filmmaker Kirthi Nath, author Sara Seinberg, and numerous others you most certainly want to hear. It's an excellent reason to leave your computer behind.
