KT Nelson and ODC/Dance bring Margery Williams’ horrible classic to the stage — oh, sorry, we meant “Margery Williams’ wonderful, if completely weeping-inducing, classic.” Seriously, The Velveteen Rabbit is a tinderbox, and it should be handled with care. Luckily, choreographer Nelson and the athletic, intelligent rubber bands in the company do respect the old story, and they make the production an excellent addition to holiday traditions. In its signature approach, the troupe incorporates a range of styles including ballet, modern dance, and contact improvisation, and it adds to them narration, Benjamin Britten’s lovely score, and artist-made costumes and sets. Part of the fun is the extras: Grandparents’ Day is Nov. 26, three of the performances feature real rabbits after the show, and today is Milk & Cookies Day.
Thursdays-Sundays, 2 p.m. Starts: Nov. 28. Continues through Dec. 12, 2010
