Growing Pains

In late 2010, we're pretty sure mustaches are finally back out. Granted, a mustache is nothing like a trucker hat; it'll never be completely ridiculous. Esquire would have nothing to write about if that happened. But we think the participants in Mustaches for Kids SF might have had some fairly strong teenagery "I'm wearing the wrong thing on my face!" feelings to work through during the growing season (Nov. 11 to tonight), and that makes it all the more special. This year, they had to fight (possible feelings of shame) for the kids. And this year, M4KSF just might beat the impressive $90,000 it raised in 2009 to help low-income schools in the city, especially with gentlemen like Wade James Crowstache, who leads the money board at press time. At tonight's 'Stache Bash, the growers compete in events such as Guinness Beer Foam Retention Test and Mustache Haiku, as well as assorted feats of mustache strength, to take home the Sweetest 'Stache trophy. Despite the charity angle, don't expect a subdued affair: Mustaches bring out the T-Top Trans Am in everyone.
