If you didn't live through the 1980s, you can't fully imagine the horror. You can boggle in delirious wonder at the few bits of that era's fashion “choices” and musical mistakes that have trickled down to us, but you can never, never know what full immersion could do to a person, and for that you must always be grateful. The Man of Rock, a new play by Daniel Heath, is set at the epicenter of all that was wrong with the '80s: the New Jersey shore. You know what that place is like currently on TV, and back then it was worse. But the play is fun and funny; it's all about the plucky spirit of an end-of-summer battle of the bands (original music by Ken Flagg), love among those with crunchy mullets, and the glory of snug, acid-washed jeans. (Please, please, let there be pastel high-top Reeboks ...)
